TrueHugz had the privilege of partnering with Lions Befrienders Active Ageing Centre at Tampines Blk 434 (LB AAC @ Tampines 434) to host an educational talk on incontinence. Our shared goal was simple yet meaningful: to break stigma, build awareness, and equip seniors with practical strategies to manage incontinence confidently.
This neighbourhood centre is a vibrant community hub where seniors gather for activities, conversations, and support. We were honoured to be invited and to contribute to their ongoing mission of empowering older adults to age well in the community.
Incontinence is common, yet still not talk about enough. Many people suffer in silence due to embarrassment or just do not know whom to talk to.
At TrueHugz, we draw from both our experience as caregivers and more than 30 years of lived experience with incontinence. We believe that open conversations are the first step toward understanding and confidence.
Our team focus on creating a safe and respectful space where participants felt comfortable asking questions, sharing their stories, and learning together.
About 30 elders joined us that morning. The session was conducted in both Mandarin and English, ensuring everyone could learn in a language that felt natural and comfortable.
Their attentiveness, humour and willingness to participate touched us deeply. They listened closely, asked many thoughtful questions, and even shared personal experiences. Moments like these remind us why our mission matters: every conversation helps break stigma and empowers someone to manage their health with confidence.
The session brought together practical education and real-life insights to help seniors better understand incontinence and manage it more comfortably. We began by clarifying what incontinence is and addressing common misconceptions, which led to thoughtful discussion, especially around issues like how to help people cope with leaks and the assumption that thicker products work better (which isn't true).
Participants were also introduced to simple, accessible strategies such as seated pelvic exercises, hydration habits, and small daily adjustments that can make a meaningful difference. Their questions reflected a strong desire to understand the condition beyond surface explanations, and many appreciated learning how comfort, breathability, and proper fit play a crucial role in choosing the right products.
We also shared a deeply personal experience of living with incontinence for over 30 years, which many seniors found relatable and encouraging. They listened with warmth and attentiveness, and several later shared that hearing someone speak so openly made them feel less alone.
Some even expressed that the topics covered resonate with them and it was their first time hearing the topic discussed in such a relatable, honest way. This sense of connection and trust truly captured the purpose of the session, breaking silence, reducing stigma, and empowering individuals to manage their condition with dignity and confidence.
After the talk, many seniors approached us quietly to shake hands, share personal stories, and ask additional questions. These one-on-one moments were heartfelt and humbling. We were also encouraged by their eagerness to try our Singapore-designed TrueHugz diapers. Their interest affirmed their strong desire for high-quality, breathable products that offer real comfort and support in our warm and humid climate.
As we left the centre that day, we felt grateful, encouraged, and more committed than ever. Supporting older adults and helping them feel empowered to live comfortably and confidently lies at the core of what TrueHugz stands for.
To our partners at Lion Befrienders AAC @ Tampines 434, and to all the seniors who welcomed us so warmly, thank you, 谢谢您. We look forward to more community engagements, more meaningful conversations, and more opportunities to bring comfort, confidence, and care to everyone navigating incontinence.
